NFC or bar code scanner in the fridge that would not only tell you if something expired but would also make suggestions for recipes based on the content in the fridge. Better yet, an NFC for the entire kitchen and pantry that would do the same things.

Oh yes, I remember that. I would make a quarter pounder, leaving all the grease on it, slap a bunch of the dehydrated onions, mayo, tomato (I brought my own mayo and tomato) and shredded lettuce on that bad boy.
