Well, that's part of the reason why "indie music" has become such an useless term: People put that label on anything that they can't easily define (as singer/songwriter, more classic rock, metal etc.) without caring about the label the band is on. It has little to do with it being "independant" anymore, but more about

Yeah, I seem to remember Gaiman saying it could go on for six seasons. I too really hope HBO will order a season of the show (we'll need a pilot first though) because I think the book fits brilliantly as a HBO show. In the same way Supernatural (and X-Files before it) has a brilliant set-up for Monster of the Week

Any more news on that American Gods series HBO is possibly doing?

edit: Misunderstanding.

I know that the term "indie" has lost all its meaning, but come on, Mars Volta isn't indie. It's more or less the definition of prog, like it or not.

I know that this is purely subjective, but I can't wrap my head around how someone would prefer Sparta to At the Drive-In. I'm not a big fan of Mars Volta, but I can at least understand how someone can love that band. But Sparta? God, that shit is so mediocre.

Well, I'd say that maybe White Stripes - Seven Nation Army is the best rock single of the 00s. but Are You Gonna Be My Girl is up there.

You're on The AV Club…have you not read the comments on any of the obits here? We do not seem to give more respect to a person when he's lying on his death bed, it's always been like that.

The only negative thing about the update system is how people insist on mentioning their updates on every single article.

God, that "Die Bart, Die" bit is one of the funniest scenes The Simpsons ever did.

Ziggy… :(

Japanese game shows are the best. Me and some friends used to watch a lot of that stuff a couple of years ago. Even though we couldn't understand a single word, what happened was so insane that I simply loved it.

Thanks for the interview. Mann has a good point about how ratings work on HBO; It's not THAT important, and it's not about the first episode, but every viewer through the week. 4.8m isn't bad, so there's no way this show would've been cancelled if it wasn't for the deaths.

That's interesting. I always thought Deadwood's ending was pretty good, all things considered, and I guess that's the reason.

But you just know that PETA et al won't care about such details. It's a shame that it got cancelled because I thought it was the best drama to debut in a couple of years, but I do understand HBO's position and why they did it. It would've been a PR nightmare if they continued the show, especially if another horse died.

Yeah. If you listen to the audio commentares for the episodes he wrote of Seinfeld, he clearly loves that kind of humor (he did, among other episodes, The Bizarro Jerry, which is a VERY meta episode). The last time I heard, he also lost a lot of weight and got married a year or so ago, so good for him. If this happens

@avclub-4caf6aa0375b2499ebfe7e971b36eee3:disqus  Lena Headey commentary is great all-around. She absolutely hates Joffery (in a love-hate kinda way, of course), and generally seems like a funny person. She also swears alot, which I always love to hear.

I love the whole bit in one of the Seinfeld episodes where Bania goes on after Jerry's stand up show and is called a "time slot hit". The writers must've hated all the shitty, shitty shows that NBC tried to put after Seinfeld (Caroline in the City, anyone?).

The Office doesn't even come close to how dominating Seinfeld was at its peak.

Compare that to sitcoms that came before Seinfeld, and the pace is a revolution for the format. In shows like The Cosby Show they would focus on one, slow-moving story each episode. Seinfeld more or less always had four stories, and packed it full of a huge amount of scenes and jokes. It paved the way for most modern
