Brick is amazing. All the tropes of a hard-boiled detecive story transposed to high school. No one calls the police because its not that kind of film: adults barely feature for purely stylistic reasons. And it works. Easily Johnson’s best movie.

Love Marvel Snap. I’ve put hours into it, not spent any money and still finding awesome combinations of cards to beat people. Its not the best game here, that’s ER, but its the one I play most

I’d love a Shenmue series. Failing that, Just Cause

Hard agree on the flatness of the Numenoreans. Everyone else was just OK though. And I do lay some blame on the dialogue. Overall I enjoyed the show but only despite the performances.

The casting on Rings of Power was almost all very questionable. Maybe House of the Dragon snapped up all the actors who could deliver fantasy dialogue convincingly. But Mawle was an exception. He was great.

Where’s Space Above and Beyond? And, for that matter, Star Cops!

It definitely was meant to be a Star Wars version of that

He used telepathy to stop it ever coming up in conversation.

Maybe! Rewatching the scene again I’m not so sure it won’t turn out to be a lightsabre that’s also a cudgel.

Ah yeah, you’re right. Thought he was a secret jedi or something

Glad to see that Tony Danza song in there

Just before Luthen met Saw, and he was searched, was that meant to be a lightsabre he had? It looked like a kind of retro one.

A Christmas Carol is a great story. It needs to be said. Full accolades to Dickens for writing something that can be retold over and over in different ways but comes with a set of symbols and motifs that we all, from all walks of life, instantly recognize and identify with. Having said that, I’ve seen even Reynold

No, if I got it wrong please correct me. I thought that area was South America, so I’ve been mistaken.

Can’t wait. Isn’t the beach South America? With the ziggurat in the back? Be cool if the Black Panther suit wasn’t one person but the collected consciouness of the people of Wakanda. Maybe Namor does something to kick off mutants in the MCU? No ideas on anything else.

Is this some of that ‘good writing’?

If you’re making a Disney+ show, please - I beg you - watch Andor. You don’t have to copy it but please make note of how good, intelligent writing can elevate something.

I’m kind of sold because of the way Neeson says “we’re closed” in that improv clip above. So funny

Enjoyed the first one a lot. Light and breezy and fun. But I’d kill for a dour, smoggy Sherlock film or series done as a period piece with no gimmicks. They can save the fun stuff for the Irene Adler story but start with Hound of the Baskervilles, to get everyone in, then do the short stories.

I largely agree with the list apart from the dreadful Notes on a Scandal. No one comes out of that silly film looking good. It’s melodrama with way too much ‘melo’
