Welp I forgot what day it was (again) and missed the start of SNS.

Your friends are lucky to have you, they’re going to be really glad, even just knowing you’re there to fall back on if they’re stuck or overwhelmed! Your partner needs to chill out! 

Ahhh getting the smile from a baby, especially a very little one, is the fucking best!! 

They are magic; you put them on your nipples in your bra and they soothe and heal the skin. They cured my cracking nipples pretty much overnight. They are kind of expensive but so worth it.

The hospital baby gift is such a lovely idea. I dunno if my hospitals do that but I’ll find out, or see if there’s a program for new mothers who might be struggling. This giant baby more or less skipped “newborn” size entirely... 

IKR I eat her hands a lot

Lol she does not; I wasn’t very clear in the way I wrote it. She’s perfectly capable of eating enough to last 3 or 4 hours, but will ONLY sleep 3 or 4 hours if she’s physically on top of me, specifically. Beside me, no. On top of her father, no. In a cot, hell no. She was over 10 lb when she was born, she’s big! 

I’m definitely planning to do the odd bottle of expressed milk once she’s a bit older, trying to avoid nipple confusion, but I really want to stick with breastfeeding as much as possible mostly because I am very lazy and I do not want to sterilise, make up, store, carry, etc bottles!

The very nice lac consultant in the hospital didn’t think there was a tongue-tie, but if we don’t have the hang of it by Thursday I might go to the breastfeeding clinic in the hospital and get it double-checked. I do have lanolin, but even better than lanolin are the little silver nipple hats!

I don’t think you forget; my younger sibling is 24 and my da yesterday was like “the first 6 weeks are hell” with this kinda haunted look so...

Thank you for the tip! It’s getting better than it was, I think she’s figuring it out. My saviours have been the weird silver nipple hats. I was dubious, but they are excellent.

Oh, definitely, I’ll be passing everything on that I can, except a few pieces that have sentimental value. People who come with baked goods and beer are excellent, your friend is lucky to have you!

A women’s shelter is a lovely idea, I will look into that. I’ve been planning to donate to good charity shops, but that would be even nicer. Actually now I’m thinking about it maybe I should keep a bag/box going that I can donate to my church’s drive at Christmas for the women’s shelter near them. 

Oh yes, the sling is how I get any sleep at all; she will grudgingly sleep in the sling on her dad’s chest for about 2 hours. I never get to wear her, because whenever I have her, she’s eating, basically! But I’m looking forward to using it more as she presumably eventually has to start eating less frequently...

Yeah, absolutely, and I love giving gifts too! If my friend had a baby, I would be soooo tempted by adorable baby clothes, although I like to think I’d try to match their taste and ethics, and if I couldn’t because I didn’t know them well enough, I’d just send a voucher. Because hell yes, vouchers to useful shops are…
