Yes. It is really, really stupid. So are rituals of many nations and tribes, both ancient and modern. It is ritualized child abuse. So is circumcision and FGM. There are more examples, and they are all stupid. Baptism is also ritual stupidity, it is just not ritually stupid torture.

Calling something a ritual doesn’t make it any less stupid. It makes it worse, actually, as it suggests prolonged stupidity by an entire group.
