I’m glad you brought up the price of gas.  Big oil isn’t going to sit idly by and watch their profits disappear.  When cars use less fuel the price of fuel will go up.  Then the government will lose tax money because there is less gas consumed.  Then they will either raise taxes or tax you based on mileage.  I

It got absurd so gradually that people saw bumper steps and thought “hey, that’s a great idea!”

The height of 2WD trucks has been dramatically increasing for about 20 years.  My dad has a 2000 or so Dodge 2WD work truck, my 2011 Silverado 2WD work truck is 3-4" taller than his Dodge.  I ended up with a 2017 Silverado wrok truck as a loaner, it was 3-4" taller than my 2011.  You pretty much need to be 8'4" to

Yeah, slamming one is a bit extreme. I don’t like that all new trucks in the US right now have hoods that are taller than the roofs of most older sedans. I also don’t think you should have to get an aftermarket step to get into the cab of one. If stock ride height was maybe 3-4 inches lower, it would get better fuel

I’d like to think there is some reasonable height somewhere between stock and slammed. In a nostalgia package like this, I’d call it the “Remember when we didn’t have to lift shit so damned high?” option.

I have always loved trucks, and I especially like the old school paint schemes. You really can’t go wrong with the old school cool......

Read the article.  Then post.  It works out better for all of us.

Did you even read the opening line of the piece? The author literally opens with the fact that she had to deal with 55mph limits when she moved to the NE.

My car gets significantly better mileage at 75-80 than at 55-60.  Speed is a minor factor on an aerodynamic car, having the engine in it's efficiency range is a much bigger deal.

Oh now speeding is ‘faster than the flow of traffic’. Try telling that one to a cop who’s pulled you over for speeding. Back peddle much?

That.

Im in the Chicago area. Practically nobody drives the PSL on the expressways. I-294 speeds have crept back up to 80-85mph but the speed kills types got 26 over as up to 6 months in jail but then double crossed and blocked the PSL from going back to the 1950s level of 70mph. As a result it has become rather unpleasant

Always be engaged while driving. low speed limits leads to complacency and inattentiveness. Faster driving encourages paying attention and attentiveness

Speeding, for when the speed limit posted is laughably low for current road conditions.

“Hands up if you remember the Egyptian military crossing the Suez Canal in a surprise attack on Israel in 1973.”

That's not a good hot take. At all.

I worked in San Antonio for 6 months and had the hardest time slowing down when I got back to PA. My wife was constantly reminding me the speed limit wasn’t like it was in Texas. The PA turnpike is a depressing desolate place and it also should be a 75-80MPH road. Same with a lot of I-95 being a 65mph road. At least

Camrys and Rogues”...those are the problems right there...

that’s the northeast. i grew up there but live in the midwest now, and i can tell you that enforcement is VERY different here.

I think you’re arguing that higher speed limits make roads less accessible to non-car things. While this may be true, the speed limits we’re talking about here are speed limits on highways and such. Pedestrians and cyclists on highways isn’t what we’re looking for here.
