I don't hate the idea. Sounds a bit like the hedge witches in Magicians but with organised crime.

Me to but mostly because I've heard that the voice actress is coming back.

This episode reminded me of how much I liked the Mandalorian episodes back in TCW. It's a shame that Rebels usually just hints at the rich history of the setting so you either need to be a fan and know about X or just be happy with the surface information the show gives you.

I've never felt it fits well with the KOTOR era empire either. The Empire being xenophobic and having an obvious glass ceiling/cliff is at odds with their power and strength first and always mindset.
