We also know Jocelyn Carter's real name………

Well, honestly, I consider any TV show that survives to a second season to be successful considering that the vast majority of TV shows that are produced never make it out of their first. Further, it improved CBS's ratings in the Monday-at-9 time slot by 66%. So yeah, I'd consider that successful.

Not surprised. He's got a regular gig on a successful show on a competing network, plus his wasn't exactly a well-liked role on XF……

Robert Patrick has a regular role on SCORPION, and probably didn't have the time OR the inclination……..

Both The X-Files and Battlestar Galactica filmed in Vancouver, so they're pulling from the same pool of actors. In fact, if you watch shows that film in Vancouver (see also Supernatural), you see a LOT of overlap. Hell, half the people who showed up on one of the Stargate series also appeared in XF back in the day

Best in-joke of the week is the arms dealer declaring, "War is good for business," which is also Ferengi Rule of Acquisition #34, worth mentioning because this episode was written by former writer for STAR TREK: DEEP SPACE NINE (where the Rules of Acquisition were mostly coined) Robert Hewitt Wolfe, who also co-wrote

Very true, although the "it isn't out in ebook yet" thing was a major glaring issue. The entire notion of "pulp the print run" is a thing of the past……

It's funny, one of the reasons why I was less than enthusiastic about ELEMENTARY when it was first announced was because we'd already had Holmes-and-Watson-in-modern-NYC-with-a-female-Watson, and it was called LAW & ORDER: CRIMINAL INTENT.

Also? Diamond got top billing, over Shea, so if Shea's more well-known, he needs a better agent…. :)

He was the energy company's lawyer in the episode, the one whose wife slept with both the boss and the plumber. He's also had recurring roles on THE WEST WING, THE SHIELD, THE DOLLHOUSE, MARVEL'S AGENTS OF S.H.I.E.L.D., and MINORITY REPORT, to name but a few.

Actually, the best use of "Renegade" on screen was at the end of the SUPERNATURAL episode "Nightshifter." Indeed, that was one of the best uses of any song on any TV show ever.

Not quite — this one actually worked with that trope, as Reed Diamond is at least as well known as John Shea (they even, as Genevieve mentioned, threw in a reference to Diamond's '90s role on HOMICIDE), so it could've been either one of them.

I disagree 100% with your assessment of Dichen Lachman's performance in general and this paragraph in particular: "Jiaying switches into evil mastermind mode very quickly, and Dichen
Lachman doesn’t go far enough in her performance to make Jiaying a
convincing villain. She was much more believable playing the softer,

"The man hired to play Kahn"???? Really? Aasif Mandvi has been a mainstay of THE DAILY SHOW for years, plus his name was right there first in the guest list….

Carnivale suffered from losing its first-season showrunner (Ronald D. Moore) to Battlestar Galactica. The second season was a shadow of its former self, with all the nuance and interest drained from it.

Not to put too fine a point on it, but this show has used CRIMINAL INTENT as its model from jump — not surprising, as CI itself was always a Holmes pastiche. But when the trailers for ELEMENTARY first started airing in the months leading up to the premiere, I got much more of a CI vibe off it than I did Holmes, to be
