The “greatest generation (of racists)“.
If he was feeling 56 years worth of “guilt”, he - and his other racist-behaving classmates - could have done more to address the residual effects of their bad actions & neglect.
I’d feel a whole lot better if he “ended the racisms” going forward by calling up all his fellow white dudes who perpetuated racism back in the day and organizing them to pool their resources for a scholarship fund for students of color and a library of REAL American history at the school.
Try by changing the ideologies of other whites. Try by standing up to white supremacy at every chance you get. Try by petitioning your local government and police forces when injustices occur. Try by doing good deeds selflessly, instead of for absolving your own guilt. Black victims don’t need your condolences.
I’m seeing a lot of empathy for the poor, old white man who’s “turning a new leaf”. 😢
The moral of the story is that words don’t mean shit. Unless Todd there invents a time machine, and goes back to end all the racisms, none of this matters.
I’m not even impressed but I’m disturbed by the internalizing of the older black man involved.
act right with POC
Right! Like, it’s like he wanted to set everything right before he croaked. I’m not even impressed but I’m disturbed by the internalizing of the older black man involved. Perhaps it’s a sign that, despite going through the hellish world that American racism, he has managed to keep his humanity intact. I really don’t…
I’m on the fence about this. One, it’s good that Owens got some sort of wake up call but it’s probably got it because he some sort of “memo” from the grim reaper so he wants be ‘right before God’ (since most of these type of men are more stubborn than an ass).
I believe he thought he could get away with it in the South. He has been saying racist things from day one. I thought he was a joke. I wonder how many other people were like, “Is this happening?” Words, especially when they are coming from a person who seems insane, are easier to ignore. This he can’t brush off with,…
I’m really disturbed these students had to go through this, but I’m glad it happened. Anything he does to reveal how shitty he is is fine by me. So GOP voters: vote for an unapologetic racist. Justify it now, assholes.
Spoiler alert- It’s not just pockets in the south.
Haha, sorry I didn’t mean to criticize just you. I wanted to respond to both yours and Slay douche’s comment but I don’t know if you can reply (or @) to two people with just one comment.
I didn’t say it was only a Southern thing. I responded to a comment that was specifically about the South and the ways in which our society works to ignore how racist some people there can be.
The US is time traveling backwards very rapidly...
I agree that the South is racist but it’s not doing anyone good to say racism is only a Southern thing. When we say that, we’re basically saying that other regions are better when in many cases they’re worse. Trump’s not Southern and HE was the one who kicked them out.
I seriously do not understand how the police sided with the Trump campaign here. They weren’t creating a disruption, they weren’t being disrespectful, they were just standing there, BEING BLACK. How can they justify forcing them to leave the campus that they paid to attend? It is infuriating. I don’t understand why…
I have serious questions about this.
