He doesn’t have full possession, so in other words, it’s like a fumble, that goes backwards. If Miami was up, and he would have fumbled going down like that, and Duke recovered and ran in in, it would have been called a fumble because the ball was out of his hands, or moving at the time of the knee being down.

Miami won, that’s why people are pissed. If this was solely about ref incompetence, people would point out that Duke’s go ahead TD was sketchy as all hell, the ball never broke the plane. They would note that two of those final drive PIs were bad, and in one, the guy didn’t even make a move on the ball, he just

LMFAO at Duke fans(and Miami haters) throwing a hissy about about this. Let’s just ignore fact that your last drive was GIFTED to you with some bogus PI calls, and the ball didn’t break the plane on your go ahead score. Sirk wasn’t even close to getting the ball over the goal line, he was nailed short, time runs out

If the ball is on your fingertips, you don’t have possession. This isn’t like basketball where if any part of you is touching the ball at the buzzer it’s a violation.

The only thing I can guess is that since he lateraled the refs determined that the ball was already coming out, same as it would be with a fumble.
