Also, to keep your post fair, this law was put in place in 2006 under a GOP majority Congress.

I think I’ll get the Jeep, take a blowtorch to it then spray it down with vinegar, peroxide and saltwater, and send it to David Tracy. He’ll know what to do with it.

It actually hasn't been like that for a long, long time.  It's essentially its own organization, there is a connection but not like it used to be.

This is not a good opinion.

I absolutely loathe FedEx. I’ve found UPS decent, but still not good, and they're not really a good company to their people. If our parcel and mail delivery goes the way of being fully privatized....that would suck. I’ve had far fewer bad outcomes with USPS than with either of the private carriers

Can I also just say that based on my interactions with recieving and sending shipments USPS is by far the easiest carrier to work with? I find their website really easy to use, getting tracking updates on things coming to you is easy peasy, they’re dramatically cheaper than FedEx or UPS, and while I know not

Also: let them offer basic financial services like other postal systems around the world do (and like ours used to). But that would mean that payday loan places would have competition, and their lobbyists would never allow it.

I’ll save the Post Office by not voting for any Republican. The leadership’s got a hard-on for wrecking it and the rank and file won’t stop them.

Last time I was on a plane I brought my own booze so I’m gonna say I use the postal system more.

OR we could stop requiring the USPS to pre-fund pensions and make operational changes without having to consult with Congress, and the entire thing would be cleared up in a matter of months.

I use the airlines more too, but I’d trade all my future flights for a postal service that isn’t hamstrung by Congress and continues to make sure the poorest and most rural Americans have the same privileges as everyone else.

The Marines are part of the military? The very tip of the spear to be exact.

I’m buying this:

I know Free Shipping is kind of an internet entitlement these days, but Amazon will voluntarily lose money on this shipment to keep you as a customer. I’m not sure the USPS can afford to do the same.

I bought the little 1971 postal jeep die cast as well as the glass Christmas tree ornament.

Without the support of the post office, many businesses small and large will die. It would be the nail in the coffin for print media. USPS is pretty much the best government agency, and it should live on forever.

Can we not save it by funding it properly instead? If we can waste billions on the F35 program for the military and also the marines, then surely we can fund something that actually improves lives?

This has my stamp of approval.

I was waiting for the right wing talking points to make their way here. The USPS does NOT lose money because it allows Jeff Bezos and Amazon to “just drop packages on the floor” and say “deliver it.” The USPS actually breaks even or makes a tiny profit on operations every year. The ONLY reason that they need a bailout

“This is a required service for our democracy”

President Trump threatened to veto the next $2 trillion coronavirus aid package if it includes funds to save the storied institution. (Because honestly, why would you include funds to save the employer of more than 2 million Americans in a U.S. stimulus package?)
