Depends on the kid. With my oldest, I never considered it a problem. He went to bed just fine and he fell asleep when he fell asleep. No problems.

This was my mom's policy. She did not care if we went to sleep but we were not to get out of bed for any reason short of flood or fire. I, too, do not understand this begging kids to go to bed.
