Lower than what? As I understood it, they're referring to AAC being lower bandwidth than CD, which it is, and always has been. They aren't lowering the bandwidth further with this initiative. Rather, they are changing mastering techniques to accommodate the lowering that has already taken place.

The anti-audiophiles have already gone into the nerd rage earlier in the comments.

Okay. I won't lecture about whether or not you should be doing this (I am not exactly squeaky clean on that topic myself). I just figured that I would let you know that there are risks. Sounds like you have your brain wrapped around it already.

Can't help you as to why, but this display is very definitely burnt in, as can be clearly seen, even when it is switched off. I also know its age because my immediate superior is the person who was tasked with getting it acquired and installed.

If it is not a problem, then why did it happen?

It's ONE YEAR old.

CNN on one portion of the screen, a clock on another, and a slideshow on the remainder.

It may work, and is worth a try. That approach is more common with AM than FM, though.

As someone familiar with RF, let me define "a lot" for everyone: 20dB = a 100X increase or decrease in signal level. Antennas that are in parallel with each other will have the most effective signal transfer.

Do be aware that adding an external antenna may violate the transmitter's certification, and adding a 1W amplifier will violate its certification. Once these have been done, unless you have the engineering prowess to confirm that they comply with the rules, you have lost the authority to operate the transmitter. The

Because the author is right. I've seen it first hand.

I see a one-year-old plasma screen in the lobby of my workplace every day on my way out that says you're wrong about burn-in.

CRT burn-in wasn't an issue because there was no viable alternative.

I disagree. When I have seen plasma alongside LCD, I find the LCD more appealing. The plasmas in the size I would be interested in (30-50") tend to have visible pixel striping, kind of like what you would see on a Trinitron CRT. It was distracting on CRT, and it's distracting on plasma. I know the stripes are

You could also ask them not to include them.

Actually, I do insist that my Mom runs Linux. She does run Linux, and I gladly give her the little bit of technical support that that requires. My Dad runs Windows and gets his support from a friend instead.

On reading this, I am inclined to believe that Nikola Tesla must have utilized this technique. Unfortunately, this has had a negative effect posthumously — there are folks who don't recognize the bad ideas among his notes, and swear up and down there is a conspiracy to bury these ideas.

In doing this, don't be afraid to trawl yard sales and thrift stores. Yes, you will encounter junk doing so, but if you know what you are looking for, you can find some real gems.

You could also use coins.

In additon to capitalH's remark, you might have also noticed the word "approximate" in the headline.
