I went to Southeast Missouri State, and I have so many disturbing memories of those fucking terror bugs. When the husks hit the sidewalks, people would just kinda blithely step on them, while I was trying very hard to keep my lunch down.
I am of the firm belief that cicadas are ambassadors of Cthulu. They just LOOK evil. Also, in some places they die and lose their grip on the tree, creating a disgusting minefield on the sidewalks.

Oh, gods, the ‘science!’ The one that drove me crazy was the body tossed into wet cement - when they chipped it out, the cement was against the bones. The decomposing body would have left a cavity around the skeleton.
Honestly, I have no damn clue. I mean, the plot sounds about right, but it all blurred together into a giant pile of plot holes, cliches, and retcons.
I loved it until I realized that it was basically a big mindfuck and there would never, ever be any kind of resolution that would make sense. The experience kept me from getting too far down the Lost rabbit hole, though, which was a good thing for what little sanity I have left.
And wasn't there a gigantic archive type place with tissue samples everyone who ever got a shot? That was maybe underground and probably retconned out of continuity a season later?
