Whether you can move or not depends on your situation. Been living somewhere for 30 years and are 25 years into your home? Got kids in the local schools or an elderly parent nearby? Does your spouse have a job and career? Moving is a simplistic answer that rarely is so straightforward in real life.

Having worked in printing and now in software, you’re missing a couple things that separate blue collar and white collar work. Here’s a starter list of things that blue collar employment deals with that you likely don’t.

This works for knees. Just saying. I know a guy...

I caught a wasp with my visor pulling out of a rest stop on the Blue Ridge one time. Stung me right by the side of my eye, swelling it shut for the remainder of the day. Boy oh, boy. Nothing is more fun than riding the BRP with one eye and trying to calculate turn in points, that’s for sure.

It’s the biggest, messiest word salad I’ve encountered today.

May I add “June Bugs” and “hornets or wasps” to that list?

That’s what I do with cattle guards. Those things are even worse.

Indeed it is.

Nothing. I moved here to the Bay Area from Boston for the riding. 100k of straight road sounds like terrible riding, to be honest.

I’m not denying it’s a great road. It’s just short and crowded. After living out here for almost 20 years, roads like 129 get kind of discounted when you’ve ridden stuff like this. It’s almost completely empty of cars and goes from the coast to the central valley. You’ll ride through redwoods, gnarly goat path

If the Reno Cafe is still open, you’re guaranteed to have a blast.

If you’re in Elk City and are looking for a place to stay, check in at The Store. We rented a house from them that was across from the bar (if it’s still open) for the night for like $75 for 5 of us.

People out west on seeing videos of this road: What a cute little road. 11 whole miles?

Thanks. It was an epic day. We started at the base of Mines, up to the top of Hamilton, then down, over to Sierra, then up the Calaveras Wall then a long loop of fairly flat transit back to the start. That was a 100m/10K day.

I came here to add exactly that. I’ve been up and down that road on bicycles what feels like a dozen times at least.

Also, if your bag gets randomly pulled at TSA, it’s nice if it doesn’t have gunpowder residue on it.

Got a pretty evident typo in the headline up there, fyi.

Spending the money on TSA Pre-check remains the best $80 I’ve ever spent.

Thank you. Lost my mom 40 years ago to suicide and while I didn’t find her, it put a giant crater in our family and our relationships with each other that’s still here.
