No, my take is that many people are using it as an unhealthy, escapist coping mechanism and genuine connections on VRChat are few and far between. My point was that the documentary is probably shying away from this topic, as well as the rest of the “real VRChat”.

The government doesn’t exist nor function to protect people from themselves.

Ashley, this take feels like you missed the point. It’s a documentary not an advertisement for VR chat or an HBO show.

This game is the shit gift that keeps giving shit.

Well I mean when you bought your way to the top, it’s kind of your own fault for being in this situation.  I mean the game is still new so unless other players are dropping the money he did to get to the top there are probably not a lot of players on his “level” to even play against.  I mean yes Blizzard designed this

Sounds like he finished paying to win and paid to won.

Okay, I had to check - didn’t find a Patreon, no merch for sale on his website, has a Twitch (~16k subs there) and another YT channel (~1k subs). Yep, must be independently wealthy/real dayjob is the cashcow or something else.

In this case, I am not sure it would be fraud so much as him being the only person in that bucket. The good news they made a balancing system to keep whales from fighting non-spenders. Bad news the megawhale is alone and pissed.

I think you might be misunderstanding how most matchmaking works? Most systems use a hidden MMR or ELO system, an internal number that says how good you are functionally.
If your internal number is too high, let’s say 10000. It’s never going to match you with the second best player if that player is only 4000. Exactly

“I spent $100,000 to skip over all of the game’s grind.”

I just mean them saying this game is not anevil, money-sucking monster”.

I’m something of a believer in the Pokémon Picross monetization scheme: set an upper limit on the amount of money a person is able to spend. (In that case, once you buy a certain amount of currency, whether it was all at once or in small chunks, the game’s currency became free. This could be readily modified for

Really hard to feel bad for someone who spent $100K on what amounts to a hobby

Just wanted to point out how this aged like milk under the sun:

“wahhhhhhhh i paid obscene amounts of money on a mobile game to artificially make myself the best and now there’s nobody i can fuck over wahhhhhhhhhhhhhh”

I don’t think there is fraud, BUT when you spend that amount of money and become the #1 player in ranked pvp if it only matches you with similar level players, which is good, you just screwed yourself bro.

file this under “bad investments” and cue the world’s smallest violin.

This one seems to be a small/medium channel (150k subs). A few random youtube calculators seem to estimate like $30k a year on this channel.

I try not to be a jealous person but man... a 10th of what this person spent on a single free to play game would be life changing for me.
