Gyms are there because personnel there placed Ingress portals to play, just like pretty much every other US military base. There are probably gyms at Gitmo too.

I never picked up much in the way of conversational skills so trying to talk to people usually just results in me feeling stupid. I’m already bummed out about work enough without making it worse.

I’m thinking that an Ingress player submitted some portals in a housing subdivision. Maybe a playground or some sculptures? Churches?

The portals must be reasonably accessible to the public and safe for pedestrians. Some of the default ones had bad data and users submitted a ton of bad ones that slipped through.

Possibly certain types of items being more available at those pokestops. Maybe a branded item/powerup.

I’ve found it best to just remain largely silent. I don’t speak to coworkers unless it’s a necessity. I probably speak less than 500 words per month. It’s hard for people to be mean to you if you don’t interact with them.

What sucks is that they used so much data from Ingress that all of these pokemon kids are going to be in the way.

Many of the writers here are not journalists. They’re bloggers. They write virtually nothing but hateful, profanity filled opinion pieces without any consideration of anything beyond their own narrow world views. It would be silly to hold them to the same kinds of standards we would a real media outlet.

They are churches because they recycled data from Niantic’s other game, Ingress. A lot of the “portals” in that game are churches because they’re usually accessible and safe.
