I too, was impressed with the special effects, and they knocked me out here. That beam in the beginning probably cost a small tv show.

Great catch. On another book related front, the English-Russian dictionary is accurate enough for that period, though, that it induced an involuntary shudder for the nightmares associated with its usage.

I mean, Nick is just staff, but he lives and works in a powerful commander’s home and has a lot of responsibilities, and is working for the government as an Eye, so he’s probably more high-status within Gilead than we’d expect drivers to be. That’s probably true of the other men.

Yes. As far as I can figure, there’s nothing in the Gileadean law that prohibits a man from procreating with his actual wife. Wealthy and powerful people who can’t are given handmaids. I doubt the powers that be care about the fertility among the Econopeople—except maybe as a way of tracking how to punish the ones who

The second Reese Witherspoon draws a dollar sign on a cocktail napkin and the first Reese Witherspoon says “Oh yeah, that’s why.”

The Reese Witherspoon who picks scripts like Wild, Walk the Line, Election, and Legally Blonde needs to have a stern talk with the Reese Witherspoon who picks scripts like this, This Means War, Hot Pursuit, and Water for Elephants.

Jesus' Son was a very good indie film that seems like it would have done well in festivals and with some critics back in 1999. That was nearly 20 years ago, though…

"The kid from Titanic" ? When he took that role I thought he was 'selling out' because it was a Hollywood blockbuster role. Can you blame the guy for taking that bait? He performed brilliantly in the roles he chose - The Basketball Diaries is a particular piece of work that gets relegated due it's pre-Titanic
