I think her wording was careless, but you put this statement up against all of her other statements that pretty concretely “condemns antisemitism” and asks for “peaceful coexistence for all”, then she clearly means what she perceives as biased reporting. You seem to be the one cherry-picking now.

jfc . . . Whoever taught liberals the word “tankie” needs to be shot. Now it just means “someone to my left who I don’t like”. Susan Sarandon is not even a communist, let alone a Marxist-Leninist, let alone a Marxist-Leninst who believes in the use of force in order suppress what they perceive to be as revisionism

If this quote had been made in any other context, by someone less attuned to the current progressive zeitgeist, it would be labelled as a dogwhistle no questions asked.

You can be supportive of innocent civilians on both sides. Not all Israeli citizens support their government. Not all Palestinians support or are part of Hamas.

Both Hamas and the Israeli government are committing atrocities against civilians. This is not a simple situation where you can just support one side.

She didn’t say she supports Hamas. She says she is against Palestinian civilians being killed which you appear to be very much in favor of.

Same. I try not to have them on for comedy especially because it ruins the delivery of jokes. I also find it difficult for me not to focus on that part of the screen, at the expense of the rest of the picture.

Every theater near me provides closed-captioning for every movie. You just need to request the required device. And some theaters provide open-captions for some movies, usually one showing per day.

My problem with subtitles is that I can’t not read them, and they pop up before the dialogue is finished, so I basically am spending a good chunk of the movie waiting for the characters to say things that I already know they are going to say.

I would never go as far as saying, “Nolan’s sound mixing is good actually,” but I will shyly admit I have a hard time understanding dialogue in almost everything. Doesn’t matter if I see it in a movie theater, with headphones, or on a nice sound system, I regularly have trouble understanding certain lines of dialogue

It’s correct that others have noted that the Stimson honeymoon angle is not supported by the historical record, but Stimson DID visit Kyoto on several occasions in the 1920s, and I think the scene at its heart, if not factually correct, captures a more important truth about the decision of which city to bomb. Kyoto

Well, technically, Lucy Liu ended up with Samantha’s Birkin.

If I had to guess which major pop star would actually show up under a pseudonym in the AV Club comments to counter-post, it would probably be Doja Cat.

I for one welcome her Andy Kaufman phase

And yet again another article chronicling the demise of Twitter fails to point out that Musk was paid very handsomely to destroy a tool of mass organization by the very people being organized against.

Sure, because you could never communicate via the internet before Twitter.

Just to expound on the “train to Spain”, there is a town in Georgia (the state, not the country) named Spain, about seven hours’ drive from Florence.

Or lodging

Or the person never kidnaps the dogs in the first place, because they know the reward isn’t available to them.

Where the fuck is eXistenZ?
