They’ve always been there though, just usually folded into para-religious practices. Just that nowadays people are ditching the mainstream religion because they’ve grown disillusioned with it, or fail to see themselves in it. Magic, however, is more dynamic and inclusive so it stays around.

But do you feel the same way toward Christians, Muslims, Jews, or Hindus who take their religious beliefs seriously about God(s) and believe in angels, djinn, devils, reincarnation, etc?
