Drew's hair is amazing and should bump him up to 2. Sydney does reign supreme, because when she shared that information about profit margins, she didn't even sound like a know-it-all brat. That's amazing. Go Sydney with your new attitude.

Ehh, I think it would have been awkward. They didn't have one conversation that needed Haddie in it. It would have been like "REMEMBER OUR DAUGHTER AT CORNELL."
Yep! Just like it says right in the first paragraph of this review!
I like this a lot better than her being pregnant on True Blood. Or did she die? Or? I don't even know what happened there this season and I watched the whole damn thing. This is better. This is great.
We didn't have too much weird stuff happen in our dorm. Or maybe I missed it because I was asleep for the first semester of freshman year whenever I wasn't rowing a boat. I do have a fond memory of a sitcommy moment where the GA (grad student instead of a normal RA) came to our door freshman wanting to make sure we…
Haha, yeah. It might not be the technical term, but that's what my friends and I refer to it as. It's like a momBob and a mullet merged…
Haha, for whatever reason that just made me laugh. For me it just highlighted that Axl would easily make friends. But yeah throw it on the list of stuff that might take some people out of it.
Yeah, it probably was set in mid-late August because of the other kids not being in school yet, good point. But that definitely means he should have been practicing already… But again it's one of those "incongruous with real life" moments that really shouldn't affect my watching of the show so I will let it go :)
In real life, yes, all of the above points are valid. In real life, these would all be asshole moves. But… It's not real life. So I thought all of the beats you mention worked with the characters. Especially the part about the roommate. Axl didn't care who his roommate was, he was just excited to move to college! Also…
The Mass Mom haircut is the worst of the worst, but luckily that seems to have been contained to this state.
Exactly. This is how I can still watch stuff Scientologists are in.
A less vocal neighbor Wilson* for this generation.
On Good Wife she was at least one year if not two ahead of Zach, so she's def. in college in that universe.
@avclub-26c0eb74eb2e815d15918a4ac46473ec:disqus All of the comedy of this show is rooted in real life, but it's heightened reality that the characters take seriously but no one else is meant to take AS seriously.
But I'm done talking in circles. Hopefully people have fun with it, and if not then oh well - they're…
I never said the stories weren't meant to be rooted in the human condition. We're human. They're human. They're acting as humans. This is true. But it is possible to offer commentary on the human condition without being entirely tied to what is true in actual life.
From reading all of the comments, and even to an extent the review, it sounds like people are watching this show as if it were a normal sitcom. It's not - It's basically a series of semi-improvised sketches. That's how they make it - they come up with an outline, and they improv the rest. This means a few things.
That's what makes "take one for the team" jokes funny… When the assessment is obviously and categorically untrue. Lighten up! :)
I liked it! It made me laugh!
Replace "Modern Family" with "The Middle" and I agree!
@avclub-54d4cda5a907f7d4dd75662ab0199318:disqus Oh yeah, northeast Michigan (like around Traverse City) is full of huge cliffs and really steep/scary sand dunes. I'm pretty sure that's where this is supposed to be. It's pretty darn close.
BTW if you're ever in MI and if you like creepy 500ft sand dunes, check out the…
