I’m with everyone else on the “just talk about it” (kindly, and as calmly as possible).  I get how people think that being oblique might be kinder, but I’ve found, in my relationship at least that my partner is TERRIBLE at detecting anything approaching a hint, but hopefully tries to interpret hints in communications

Yeah, I didn’t understand what that meant when I first read it, but *shudder*. Not only is it gross in and of itself, I bet it covers for a lot of discrimination.

fair enough

It isn’t just 70's, though - they show tech & animation that come from multiple decades, and something very sci fi for the exterior.  I think it paints things as somewhat outside of time.

It’s not terrible, but it doesn’t have much staying power for me - the details just didn’t stick with me.  So, I thought those scenes were pretty helpful

I think it’s mostly because of how things were lit and shot, but boy, do the folks in that music video look like a pale bunch, especially for folks singing about how much they love the beach and the sun.

There is no basis for a lawsuit there - that’s like saying that Tolkein could have sued every author who set up an epic story with elves and dwarves in it.  There’s lots of room in storytelling for a similar base premise to go in myriad directions.  If there weren’t, there wouldn’t be a million retellings of

The books really play up the emphasis on how this is all about propaganda and messaging - from inside Katniss’s head, you know definitively that any “love triangle” elements are purely calculated on her part to get the sponsors she needs, or to send the messsages that won’t get her killed, etc.  It’s so explicitly

What she said about giving characters depth was interesting - that the men get given depth by the writers, but the women actors have to find it for themselves more often.  It does seem to be a major talent of hers.

Hopefully that doctor wasn’t a psychologist?  Ooof.

I mean, my understanding is that the caterpillar really melts down into goop and body parts, then reconstitutes as a butterfly, so I’m not sure it counts as *alive* during that interim period, so it sort of does die and get replaced? I’m not an entomologist, but I have ordered a copy of Butteflies are Pretty....Gross

Lately it’s all about small scale stuff, like focusing on my kids, and their little breakthroughs or moments where they show what awesome people they’re going to be. For example:

All of these people should definitely run, not walk away from these relationships immediately.  That being said, what was with LW3 saying she’s vegan and never been sick?  It’s irrelevant to anything that follows, and smacks of that thing healthy people do where they act like their health is a virtue of theirs, and

Thanks - I’m just going to keep finding my balance again. I can probably find some support group for kidney issues; up until now all the stuff the little bit had going on was too niche for there to be enough parents for a support group (I asked at the children’s hospital if they could set up an online forum of some

It isn’t that confusing for me - it can be ambiguous, but singular they has been in common use in English for centuries.  I’d think gendered languages would present a much bigger challenge - (like spanish or french, where even the table and chair get genders).

Definitely - resentful man-baby who in over 30 years hasn’t once thought to ask his wife if he should be doing something differently in bed is not the sexiest look.

Any suggestions for ways to be less anxious about stuff you can’t do anything about? It looks like my kid’s kidneys are starting to crap out on her, but this could be a pretty long process, and I need to not be a mess all the time. (Good news: I’m the same blood type, and if for whatever reason I’m not a match,

I mean, being an adult and just talking to them is always an option (I can’t believe that dude - 33 years!?).  Like, say “I miss having time to focus on each other - can we set a regular date night?”

Some of the drag queens on Drag Race have been trans, but most aren’t, as far as I have seen.  As others said, one’s a performance, the other’s just who someone is.

I mean, if they said your hair looked like crap, then that’s arguably a related response :)
