I haven’t - looks like it’s actiony?  Maybe I’ll circle back when the world is less nuts.  I mostly need my tv to be pretty feel-good these days.

Eh, in both cases the presence of indigenous characters has more to do with the setting than the alien elements - I can’t speak for Roswell, but I didn’t feel like Resident Alien tried to make them seem “other” (although, how well they’re doing on their portrayal isn’t really my call, as I’m not Indigenous myself).

Maybe he thought it had something to do with cars - “I’ve never driven a Formula One car in my life!”

I can’t believe I missed that!  I’m usually so good at identifying actors’ voices

You mean Tudyk?  Or do you know something I don’t about season 2?  :)

The only other show I watch that’s got Indigenous characters is Resident Alien, which I really liked, but has gotten very little attention here (even when there was a newswire about Alice Wetterlund, it failed to mention the show she’s currently on).  Early on in Resident Alien there seemed to be space being made for

I really want to see this - probably going to break down and sign up for peacock eventually, but *sigh*...

That’s why they should be strictly referred to as anti-abortion, not pro-life. They don’t care about any of these babies once they’re born, so let’s be clear about what they care about and what they don’t.

I think they’re conflating a couple separate things - someone being closeted, or not having figured out their own deal is one, totally understandable thing.   Someone being shitty to their partner because they’re going through something themselves is another, less excusable thing, and one that happens all the time

Hmm....this is a tough one. I could write to some old boss and explain in detail why the workplace environment they fostered was unfriendly to women, even though I’m sure in every instance they were patting themselves on the back for how well they were doing on same, but on the other hand, screw them.

It’s amazing when I stop and think how much GPS and smart phones have changed logistics and travel - no more having to designate a time and meeting place at the amusement park, no more having to stop for directions, or researching routes ahead of time.  My dad *finally* took all the maps out of his car last year,

So in your mind the options are either: the only indian character is the convenience store clerk OR no indian characters at all? I think you’re missing some possibilities.

Isn’t the plot of the third book pretty seriously problematic? The summary I read made it sound pretty noxious. The “hero” pouts and whines and harrasses the woman he “loves” into a relationship because *obviously* he can’t marry someone so below him in station, and thus she’s morally obligated to agree to be his

I get most of what you’re saying, and agree that the “warrior” mindset needs to go away, but I think pay raises for cops are waaaaaay down on my list of priorities - they don’t get more pay until they get more accountability, less military equipment, better psych screenings, less funding (so those funds can go to

Exactly! “I didn’t realize my gun was a gun” isn’t a valid excuse, and anyone who wasn’t a cop would be charged that same day. I mean, do tazers and guns even feel/look the same? If they’re so similar they can legitimately be confused with each other then *that’s* a major problem too, but no one seems to be saying

Yeah, I didn’t get the xmen complaint at all - that sort of premise always has lots of potential story directions it can go it, that’s why people go back to it so much.  I think maybe the reviewer’s expectations were just misset by the advertising?  Maybe it’s one of those things where you bite into something

I mostly agree - a lot of people are involved in making a TV show, and dismissing the whole thing because the guy in charge was a bad person minimizes the contributions of all those other people. My one quibble is that sometimes these sorts of revelations make elements you’d otherwise be able to overlook more glaring

Shudders aren’t *that* far off from the reaction this show always evoked for me - I never enjoyed watching shows where all the main characters are so awful, especially if the rest of the world around them seems nicer/more normal. Somehow, I even have a higher tolerance for the awfulness of Paddy’s gang than I do for

Yeah, that seems weird. My mom’s siblings vary a lot in financial situations, but when things get tight for one of them one (or more) of the more well off ones always pitches in.

That’s terrible - I wasn’t ready for the bit about the grandkids.
