It’s totally digging for a reason to disagree with the goal without being on record as disagreeing with the goal (cause that would be racist!)

My personal pet peeve is the people who complain about “bad branding” or “misleading slogans”, whether it’s BLM, defund the police, marriage equality, whatever. Clearly the outreach was good enough that you learned what it actually meant, but you’re gonna pretend that your willful ignorance justifies opposing the cause

Imagine how many people only get their news from Facebook or Twitter without bothering to look anything up on their own to verify the information. Now imagine that was all state controlled.

I really fucking hate those checkout donation requests. It’s especially galling when I’m spending a couple hundred dollars at your store and you have the nerve to ask me to support a cause instead of supporting it yourselves. How about at the very least match my donation, or just donate that $1 out of your own

There’s some kind of allegory here about you being, for her, the Too Visible Man and she’d prefer it if you were the good kind of Black person, ie one being oppressed in a TikTok video. Then instead of recoiling, she can post an outraged emoji and a “#BLM #Love #Support”. The Virtually Invisible Man. Or something.

This is why, whenever I hear about a black person ‘fleeing’ the cops, my first response is “How is that *NOT* a perfectly reasonable and justifiable response for any person of color in *THIS* country??”

Why not both? Everyone wants to “consciously” be the hero of his or her own story, which includes “standing up against racism,” but unconsciously we’re all creatures of habit and our behaviors are bolstered and curated by the racism that’s baked into the fabric of the country.

Not at all surprised. Reminds me of last summer, went to the DMV and the line was outside. Standing behind me is a white girl with a Black Lives Matter mask reading a copy of Ralph Ellison’s The Invisible Man. I nodded “hello” to her and she cowered away from me like I was about to steal her purse.

Great write up as always. Man, that New Yorker article, which literally was published 24 days before Bridesmaid’s is something.

The Andy Samberg for Richard Rider Nova campaign begins here.

Reading this, you wonder if the issue isn’t her being miscast but misused.

I think two paragraph-ettes are plenty for the flaming shitbags being discussed.

Bad Teacher makes me laugh a lot and it’s interesting to look at it in comparison to this — Diaz can have a similarly loopy energy to Faris but here she plays meaner and it’s great, she is definitely allowed to be a mess in ways it sounds like Faris is not (although in a more selfish, desperate Cool Girl vibe). Bad

what movie other than a captain america has featured two captains america?

Assigning a number barrier that if crossed = too promiscuous to marry is inherently sex-negative. Thank god at the end, she finds out that she has not crossed it, or she would be spoiled goods. I think that 20 is also far below the stated or implied sexual partners that even George Costanza racked up on Seinfeld.

She’s also the asshole pseudo-Girl Scout in that one Golden Girls episode!

Yes, who can unravel the mystery of Jenny Lewis’s Buffy role.

I’m sure she’s bummed out that she wasn’t able to be harassed and abused by Joss Whedon for several years of her life...

it’s not like Prince is some saint either(he already has allegations), I wouldn’t rule it out just because she’s retracted a statement before after being threatened with massive legal costs.

The full context of that quote (because, fucking Newswires):
