I spent a long time thinking Keanu was a bad actor, mainly because I loved the Kenneth Branagh adaptation of Much Ado About Nothing, and he was BAD as Don John (the villain). But looking back, there’s a whole lot of scenery chewing in that movie, so I think I wasn’t completely fair to him.

I may be making excuses because I adore Bill Hader, but there’s at least a backstory for why he broke doing that character, involving John Mulaney changing lines last minute so he’d be reading ridiculous shit about Dan Cortese for the very first time live on air.

I’ve been having a lot of conversations with my mom (who’s 72) the last couple years that have really exposed a widening gap between our politics. She talks a lot about things “going too far” and being afraid of being seen as too far left. It’s funny because in some ways it’s actually been easier to get through to my

That reminds me of an uncle who recently died— he was one of the most genuinely kind people I’ve ever met, and also just incredibly funny. He was in Vietnam and I didn’t learn until much later some of the awful things he saw and experienced there, and in hindsight it makes the kind of person he was even more

A ranger, Hanna Jóhannsdóttir, told AP that “Food from people’s home country is the most common bribery” he receives from passerby desperate to access Fjadrárgljúfur canyon.

Also, have we noticed the success of Batman actors is proportional to eyebrows? Adam west knew he didn’t have them so drew them in his cowl. Just saying. Keaton? Amazing eyebrows. Affleck? Shit eyebrows.

I don’t think Obama will endorse anyone in the primaries. I’m sure Joe would love if he did (his “he’s not endorsing me because I asked him not to” bullshit was pathetic), but Obama will be smart and stay out of it until the general, when he can do the most good for the nominee.

But that’s why everyone is quick to jump to the worst possible conclusion about the scene. The show runners’ previous handling of rape means they haven’t given us any reason to trust them in this instance

Kendall Jenners’ look was giving me serious Yzma from Emperor’s New Groove vibes— which honestly, is pretty good. If your “camp” look is reminiscent to anything Eartha Kitt related, you’re kind of nailing it.

Anyone know if Jenny Lewis is going this year?

I think I first heard about this book on this site (or one of its off-shoots), but The Five: The Untold Lives of the Women Killed by Jack the Ripper was a really excellent book that does a great job of returning agency to these women. I recommend it.

I took that to be an excuse to try to put people off. My husband and I have done that with people asking about marriage/kids— Oh, we’re waiting until I get a job to get engaged, we’re can’t have kids until we get a bigger place to live, etc.

An in-law of mine divorced her second husband, and promptly married his brother (unconfirmed, but we’re all pretty sure there was some overlap). The children and grandchildren all seem to have adjusted for the most part, but it’s still pretty weird.

When my in-laws got divorced in Maryland, my father-in-law tried to get his ex to pay for his lawyers, claiming she was the one with more money so she should have to. He was the one who filed for divorce, and he was cheating on his wife, so they laughed his ass out of there on that one. He had a good paying job, and

Season finale is the perfect way to frame this. There was a point in the middle of the movie where I thought to myself, “this movie would have made an excellent Netflix original season.”

There’s also an episode of the Behind the Bastards podcast on Raniere that does a deep dive into his life. Spoiler alert: he’s always been a liar, a scam artist, and a predator.

Where I live, Oakland, there are thousands of people living openly in tents on the street corners, and have for years. These people literally don’t have a pot to piss in, and it’s not just Oakland, it’s everywhere these days.

George RR Martin has said that Tyrion is his favorite character, so I could totally see him acting as the stand-in for the author.

My husband’s had a beard for a few years now— at first I thought it was weird, but I got used to it, and now when I see pictures of him pre-facial hair, he looks SO different (he has a baby face, so he looks super young clean-shaven). I doubt he’ll be shaving it off fully any time soon, because it took ages to grow
