"Real life" is that you declare your kids independent so your income isn't factored into their student loan decisions. No one— poor or middle class— should have to pay the full $40,000 a year. But, many of the middle class do. That's a huge burden for the average middle class family.

Why are my comments appearing twice?

To clarify, a kid has to be declared indepedent so the parent's income/assets is not considered in financial aid decisions. After all, it's the parents who have income and assets. Not the kid.

I suppose I'll share what I do.
