Someone referred to her as “the drunk girl who’s doing her best to try and look sober so the bouncer lets her in.” and now I can’t not see that.
Sadly, I can’t take credit for it. I stole it from a guy who stole it from a guy. But, yeah, I don’t think you can top that SHS description.
Shout-out to Ann Curry!!! I hope you are celebrating wherever you are, hon.
Absolutely. That and the phone call to Auntie Barbara.
Hopefully they’ll keep their mitts off of Evil Under the Sun. Glamorous All star camp perfection! (More Maggie Smith at her best)
I’m seeing a lot of dislike here for the original movie, but if John Hannah shows up to read a W.H. Auden poem every season, I am 100% on board.
One thing it took me a long time to learn in my 20s was that I don’t even actually WANT to be friends with a lot of people I used to know. They’re fine people, but their lifestyles diverged from mine and it turns out that simply living down the hall from someone for a year in college isn’t enough to sustain a…
Seriously, why not own it? It’s not like it was hard for Breitbart and Fox News to discredit the report with their base anyways.
Exactly, which is what has made so many of her campaign gaffes so frustrating. Just do it on the up-and-up rather than going out of their way to do fairly innocuous stuff (mostly) in the absolute shadiest ways possible.
It’s not that they did opposition research, it’s that the expenditures weren’t declared as such. It might not be a huge deal, but it’s not a good look for a campaign that was repeatedly plagued by not great looks.
She has scruples, despite their desire for her to not have them.
Gasp! The Clinton Campaign paid for opposition research? OMG! Say it isn’t so! Next you are going to tell me that there is no Santa Claus!
I literally just dug up my Kinja key to post how much I LOVE THIS FILM. Caught it on TCM one day playing hooky and ended up confessing to my mom that I ditched school because I wanted to talk about the movie sooooo badly. Rex Harrison! Gene Tierney! Natalie Wood! Ghosts and sailors and women in publishing!
George Sanders also has the best suicide note: “Dear World, I am leaving because I am bored. I feel I have lived long enough. I am leaving you with your worries in this sweet cesspool. Good luck “ He was a wonderful actor who didn’t take himself too seriously. Love him.
I love this movie and I cry buckets at the end every single time. I revisit some old movies and find them lacking; not The Ghost and Mrs Muir. It’s a gem—romantic but so delightful. The Ghost is all bluster and manliness, but he also encourages Lucy to become her own person, not an extension of her awful in-laws so in…
A bit OT, but I always maintained that Gene Tierney was the most beautiful actress of all-time, specifically in Otto Preminger’s Laura. Sadly she battled mental health issues for much of her life.
“And now, you’ll never be tired again. Come Lucia, come my dear.”
I said this on the thread yesterday, but the score of The Ghost & Mrs. Muir is one of the most beautiful scores ever. Also, I love this movie so much. THE MONKEY PUZZLE TREE!
The Ghost & Mrs. Muir is gothic- lite and a sheer dee-lite (with a great supporting bit by George Sanders as a slimey rake, as only he could play it). Advise and Consent is terrific later Gene (after all the terrible stuff she went through in the 50s). It’s a great political drama, with a still-stunning middle aged…
