Fair enough, unfortunately any of the other plugins for Gmail I tried didn't seem to work very well either. I also couldn't get Windows notifications replaced, just didn't want to work on Win7 64-bit.

What I'm trying to say is that Growl developers have intentionally left flood protection for the developers of apps that use Growl. There's a thread on Growl's message board from 2009 asking for this feature and it's still nowhere in sight. I do actually like the notifications because I can see if someone is saying…
Don't confuse this with the Mac version. It's nowhere near as good. I had Growl Mail complain about donations more often than I got email messages. Growl for Windows also wasn't able to replace Windows' own notifications and generally I found it just poorly supported by apps and awkward to use.
My only beef with Growl is that it doesn't have any kind of flood protection. I've had a problem with Linkinus filling the whole screen with notifications multiple times because it was loading messages from my bouncer (500 messages per channel stored so I can read them from multiple machines). A stupid omission I'd…
The biggest flaw of Photoshop is that it's very non-native on the Mac. The program doesn't even install like every other OSX app does. It crams itself into folders inside /Applications instead of using the Library to store plugins and whatnot and having a single .app file. Adobe poorly faked some OSX UI behavior and…
The battery seems to last better than on the Magic Mouse. I do agree with you, I really don't see why anyone would need a wireless keyboard, mouse or trackpad on a desktop machine.
Afaik you needed to extract the Bootcamp drivers to get the keyboard driver previously and even then support wasn't great.
You should swap the Win and Alt keys instead of ctrl and alt. Then you have the Apple keyboard layout where Win is Option and Alt is Cmd. Works better with OSX shortcuts this way.
This program is rubbish. It was difficult to uninstall (had to set service to disabled, reboot and kill the controller process before it let me uninstall - the controller uninstall option was grayed out), crashed when I tried to add GoogleUpdate and the user interface was a bit rubbish.
This article doesn't seem to be aimed at the regular user. Talking about getting 8 GB if you go budget is silly considering most people don't truly need even 4 GB.
Is there any real benefit to the 64-bit version? Most plugins don't seen to have 64-bit versions and the browser doesn't use so much memory that the 64-bitness would bring much to the table.
The Gigabyte motherboard is really the most important component. They've been the most Hackintosh compatible for several years now.
I don't think you were quite fair to Safari. Add Glims, Safari Omnibar and a few extensions via its own extension system and it's quite nice. This coming from a web developer.
The Yamaha differs a bit by most likely using cab simulation for the final output and small PA style speakers instead of relying on a guitar cab to shape the sound. With modeling the cab sim can make all the difference. The Yamaha also replicates how the master volume works on a tube amp: it not only changes the…
Got to disagree. While true for desktops (you can build a Mac Pro for significantly less and have it work very much the same - IF you have just the right parts), for laptops you'll generally miss out on the excellent Apple trackpad and if the DSDT is not just right, power management probably won't work like it should.…
Stop censoring. Period. I don't even know who they're trying to protect - as a kid I heard much worse language at school and even at home when my father made a mistake when repairing something etc.
You can use Dropbox to store 1Password files. To get to your password on a computer that doesn't have the software installed, you would log into Dropbox, open the HTML version of 1Password, unlock it with your master password and then find the email password.

Yes, but when you've got 15 messages in a thread it's annoying to click thru all of them to find the one you were looking for. In Gmail you can just look at the snippet and find the right one instantly.
Terrible idea. XP just needs to be put to rest. It's not a good OS. IT departments have long had to troubleshoot somewhat random problems XP can generate out of the blue, the OS is not secure and it's in many way annoying to use. Vista is secure but otherwise not much better. Win7 is far from great but it doesn't get…
