Isn’t the joke here that he is overseeing a team playing shitty football, not that he is such a good coach that he can make shit play football?

Reviewing a book *as* you’re reading it does seem fallacious, though. My review of “The Christmas Carol” after reading the beginning would be that the novel is misanthropic and Scrooge is a dickhead. You can’t really review excerpts of the novel without putting it in its broader context.
