I think the President has a lot of informal domestic power but the debates have been frustratingly lacking in real questions.

Neither candidate can gain primary voters by talking about abortion. They will agree on full access, stopping the GOP attacks, etc. So for that reason it makes it a bad debate topic (yes I realize there are other topics that fall into that camp that get brought up).
