My local school board has student board members, and I routinely see them showing more leadership, and certainly more courage, than our elected officials.

I love how she thinks that copping to thoughts/behaviors like this = overcoming them. Um, no. As usual you vastly underestimate the amount of work required of real adults, Lena.
As a woman interviewed by the Root said earlier this week: “Racism is white people’s problem. They started it. They need to fix it.”
I think it’s powerful to communicate that this one writer she defended isn’t isolated; it’s endemic to her social and professional circles.
I think we should stop calling people feminists who only use feminism to benefit themselves. That’s not my feminism. That’s not your feminism. It’s not something that you can pick up and put down when it’s convenient for you. Just because they label themselves as feminists doesn’t make it so.
Why? Why do you still need her to specifically speak out to you? Why is there always a caveat when Black feminists or feminist of color do something because you weren’t included. Welcome to it.
[ Western liberals ] are perfectly fine with their own Western white males selling and raping girls and women in their countries
Counterpoint: Every time Lena Dunham fucks up feminism ALL feminists pay a price. She opens us up to mockery, scorn, and younger women that have been indoctrinated to believe a feminist is some sort of bra burning heathen communist are less likely to stop and listen.
One, she didn’t even know Murray Miller when this alleged rape occurred so it’s not like she defending a life-long, best friend. People don’t show all sides of themselves to everyone. Two, she could have easily released a statement saying something like, “this is not the Murray I know but I will wait for the…
But I am not sure how she was supposed to react to this if she thought her friend was a good person who couldn’t possibly do this.
Thiiiiiiiis. She did not have to be part of this narrative. If someone asked her about it because it was her show, she could have said that she would prefer not to comment on the situation.
I think you bring up a good point, and no, I don’t think it’s inherently wrong to believe the men you love. However, if you’re a public figure like Lena, and you feel the need to release a statement that the victim is lying, even though you have no way of actually knowing what happened, that’s where you cross a line.
Maybe by staying quiet until She had all the facts? All they basically did was make the writer’s situation even worse by inserting themselves into the story.
Lena is an asshole and it’s annoying that she’s made feminism a part of her brand. She’s the epitome of a white feminist. Lena doesn’t want to embrace women of color or understand intersectionality. Lena just wants to be equal to white men. The rest of us can kick rocks. I’m not surprised she chose not to stand in…
A couple things. Anyone else skeptical of these Taylor Swift numbers? I know she’s always done very well, but there has not been very much excitement about this album.
Own your age people. I promise you will look loads better than if you try to spackle over the wrinkles. Or have them surgically removed.(although I’d love to know which doctor did Meryl Streep and Sally Field since they’ve retained their appearance despite surgery unlike say, Goldie Hawn)
Oh FUCK no, Lena Dunham.
Way too much space given to Gene Simmons
