The 'rock' part was known as the 'Diviner's Stone'. Created by the Kree, for whom the Inhumans were the point, so killing humans actually served their purpose. They purified it, took only the part that changes Inhumans and that part is pretty much harmless to humans. Doesn't change them, doesn't kill them.
