If your pregnancy is completely normal yes. And if your midwife is awesomely trained. I would recommend nothing less than an excellent midwife if you can find one. But I am biased because I have two hospitals a stone's throw away from my house.

I think that those extras are only a fraction of the problem. I honestly think that hospitals shouldering the billing for people who don't have health ins. and the rise in lawsuits therefore more expensive insurance for doctors (besides the costs of education) are making everything incredibly expensive.

I did too. Mostly because I come from a country with (although crappy) socialized healthcare. We'd go to the dr. whenever we needed and there wasn't a huge scare re. money. So I figured that it was the same way in the US.
