So come up with another one. “The Empire wins?” What is an outcome that preserves Luke as a hero AND a pacifist AND alive without him either being rescued or Vader being redeemed? The entire journey for him is from impatient, whiny, reckless person to serene and loving redeemer. What other arc do you envision?
