This I actually understand, though. My GP is a woman. My OBGYN is a woman. My dentist? A woman. Notably, all those offices I just mentioned are staffed entirely (I think) with women.

I don’t know, I could imagine women not wanting to be around men when they’re seeing a doc about breast enlargement or labiaplasty. These people are obviously insecure about how they appear to the opposite sex and going to a plastic surgery clinic would kind of bring that to a point.
Yup. TLJ was a genuinely good movie. I loved it even more the second time specifically because of all of the nuance a second viewing brings. It is not perfect, but no movie ever is.
Can’t even imagine what these folks would have done seeing Han frozen in carbonite or Luke getting his hand sliced off. These things were just as shocking to see on the screen for the first time. Vader is Luke’s father! I remember stumbling out of the theater in shock. A worm that is hollow and has its own atmosphere…
It’s not even been out a week. Blimey.
Sometimes I think people love the idea of the universe more than the movies that make up the universe. I rewatched the OT and I love them, but there’s some goofy stuff in there.
Eh I disagree with it being an “idiot plot point.” Keep in mind that Holdo had no idea that Poe and Finn were planning some insane plot behind her back. As far as she was concerned, her plan was working fine without any hitches, so there was no reason to tell a dumbass, hothead pilot who had just been demoted. Her not…
To be fair, how was she supposed to know Benicio del Toro was with Finn and Rose on a secret mission, and would sell the fact that the shuttles were escaping to the planet?
Though if I was the First Order, I’d be searching all the planets in the system for stragglers, just in case. Especially the planet in the…
It was not on her to explain herself to Poe. It was on Poe to have faith in her leadership. As soon as he finds out her plan, he plans a mutiny. Because he thinks he knows better. He’d have done the mutiny earlier if she’d told him. That’s all. If he’d followed orders like everyone else in the Resistance, the plan…
They probably wish it was just like one of those boring-ass EU novels from the ‘90s.
Huh, these things you hated were some of my favorite aspects. It’s almost as if our opinions are subjective...
Why does Snoke’s backstory matter? We don’t know Obi-Wan’s backstory, and it makes not a whit of difference. Ditto for Yoda. Every i and t does not need to be dotted and crossed.
I really hope we get the curmudgeons willing to share how TLJ is the worst thing ever in this article too. Their commentary is so insightful.
It’s both. They are not mutually exclusive.
Isn’t the whole point of TLJ that the next generation of Jedi (or whatever they call Force users) will be nobodies like Rey and the broom kid? Not aristocratic warrior monks, but regular, everyday people whose relationship to the Force is rooted in an egalitarian ethos? And the villain is a guy who’s convinced he has…
Finally caught it yesterday with the little one, and we absolutely loved how they kept subverting the audiences expectations and throwing us for a loop.
The plotting itself in Act 2 was pointless. What Rian Johnson was trying to do (I’m not sure I totally agree with his decisions) was take the usual harebrained Star Wars convoluted Hail Mary hero plan and make it fail. And fail spectacularly.
I stand by my “Excellent review” comment, though I guess this is also, perhaps, more in line with a critical analysis than a review. FWIW, I don’t think Ackbar would have been as effective as Holdo in both the sacrifice—it’s cool to see a non-legend do something legendary—and, as you say, in Johnson’s goal of fooling…
I take it you didn’t actually read the article? He doesn’t hate Star Wars. In fact, he likes Star Wars, but doesn’t love it. If you read the article instead of making assumptions, maybe you wouldn’t be so angry.
Damn... this might be a bit much. Sounds like there is so much more to this rage than this writer and this article.
