Oh, yeah, I’m not denying the use of egads as a word in general- Just in this bit. Going with the weird, archaic superlatives is absolutely Seymour’s bag.

To quote my friend I shared it to on Facebook: “Imagine that each person in the world has this—or something like it—hiding inside their head, a truest act of self expression waiting to bubble out. We are a world of Rorschachs in a prison with one another.”
“Egads” is perfectly cromulent, but it is most definitely derived from “ye gods,” much in the same way that “goodbye” derives from “god bless you/god be with you.”
I hope they don’t. I was saying all along that Rey’s parents would turn out to be nobodies. It’s the better option. The real issue is that the mystery should never have been setup in the first place.
For all of the debate over this, there’s an obvious lack of psychoanalysis behind Kylo’s motives for telling the truth, or for lying. Why would he do either of those things? From what we’ve seen of him in these two movies, he’s not a subtle person. He’s not got a nuanced personality; he’s all nerves, and all harsh…
Lol; the fact that you think any one part of these movies is just lazily assembled, without scrutiny... ok, guy.
Funny thing about the Dark Side users in Star Wars. They never lie. Vader is the one who tells Luke about his family. Dooku spells out his and Palpatine’s entire plan to Obi-Wan on Geonosis. Palpatine tells Anakin everything about how to save Padme in Episode III. There’s always an asterisk to what they say, but they…
Two things:
I think the movie went to some lengths to convince you that it’s plausible that Kylo Ren sees her origins. Luke tells Rey that the Dark Side will sense something she wants and offer it to her, and then says that what she wants is answers about her parents. Rey is given a (visually cool, but useless to the plot) vision…
I certainly hope not. I was really afraid this movie was going to do some lame, George Lucas bullshit weaksauce fanwank nonsense where she was secretly a Skywalker or a Kenobi, but having her parents be nothing special is great. It’s time for fanboys to get over it and just accept that their fan theories were not only…
The third movie is still about a Skywalker by blood though - Kylo.
This actually happened back in the day with Empire. People were so convinced Vader was lying that they had to get Luke back to Dagobah just so Yoda AND Obi-Wan could confirm it.
That would mean the force cave on Ahch-To was also lying to Rey. We’re meant to believe Kylo.
I think it’s way more lazy to say she is the kid of some character we already know.
Did you miss the article where they dug up fan letters from 1980 where everyone insisted that Vader was lying to Luke, too?
This is what people thought after Empire came out, when Vader said he was Luke’s father. I think it’s a valid concern, but also a red herring that we’re meant to pick up, all while it turns out to be true. I find that super interesting.
That’s the thing. She wasn’t a baby when she was abandoned. She has always known exactly who her parents were. It was never about whether they were anyone special, only that they were her family and were coming back for her. We were the only ones who didn’t know this for sure.
Imo saying “She’s Obi-Wan’s great niece” or something would feel so cheesy and even lazier.
Rey believed he was telling the truth, because she clearly knew it, too.
Its not a revelation, and very few people are treating it as such.
