It sends the exact same message that actual Christmas lights on an actual house sends in February.

I would argue that for the time, any game that took up an entire memory card probably wasn’t expecting you to have several saves.

I’m not sure they have, but again, that may well be because their missteps don’t usually get as loud or large a backlash. That’s probably because, to my memory, they’ve never done anything as directly egregious as eliminating physical media or requiring constant online connections. People went after Microsoft for

I’m under no illusions that Nintendo are my friends. But it’s absolutely irrational to pretend that just because all companies seek to profit that means all companies are equally greedy or unethical, or that all companies exploit their consumers equally.

There is something different here. The difference is context. A mistake made out of frustrating eccentricity isn’t going to be judged as harshly as one made out of malice or greed.

I didn’t say it wasn’t designed to allow multiple memory cards.  I said it was designed to be played by multiple people from the same household in the same town.

I’m sorry the game was never built to be played the way you play it, and I’m sorry Nintendo doesn’t specifically support your alternative play style.  I’m sure this is a very difficult time for you.

And I pointed out that another reason you can’t call me a shill is because I’m not shilling anything.

Oh, I definitely agree they have problems. But the problems they have, when compared to actively consumer-hostile companies in the industry (Activision and EA being the most obvious) are relatively minor, and (more importantly to me) don’t seem to be motivated by a desire to maximize profits at the expense of

There’s also the fact that you don’t know what a “shill” is.  I’m not selling anything, and I don’t give a fuck if you play Animal Crossing.

This isn’t a mistake though.

I find crappy game design to be crappy game design regardless of how long ago it began.

This trend of defending corporate entities like they’re family just makes me feel sad.

35+ years of awesome experiences.  Nintendo doesn’t owe me anything.

Sure, but I guess I just don’t find “the game isn’t designed to allow you to circumvent its rules” as a particularly compelling complaint.

You don’t have to trick or cheat someone to be anti-consumer. Apple’s repair ecosystem is anti-consumer but it’s not tricking anyone.

A game that forces you to buy an entirely new console if you want multiple people to be able to play it on their own is objectively anti-consumer.

I don’t know what you want, man. I can’t bring myself to get as angry about this as you obviously want me to, and neither can most other people, it seems. Sorry.

My assumption based on playing the previous games is that it’s all one shared, persistent, continuous space.

So... how does it work with one island being shared with multiple users asynchronously?
