Your inability to understand that something does not have to be a direct analogue to something else in order for the connotations it evokes to be applicable to the situation is entirely closed-minded. You aren’t getting the point because you’ve decided you don’t want to, and you are unwilling, and frankly probably

That’s exactly my point, thank you.

When navigating interpersonal and sociopolitical relationships is one of the main game mechanics, then political philosophy becomes part of the gameplay.

No, it’s not. The primary moral wrong of colonialism IS the subjugation of an existing native population by an invading settler population.

Oh for fuck’s sake. That was hyperbole. Of course she’s familiar with the genre. She’s reviewing an example

Not really. Colonization just means taking control of a place and economically exploiting it. The negative connotations primarily come from the fact that such exploitation has largely been of the people and cultures the colonizers found in those lands, but it’s also about the resources, and the very land itself.

I’m going to assume it’s due to the entire history of western European colonization and its lasting negative effects on other cultures across the world, but I’m not going to sit here and try to teach you an entire semester’s worth of world history in internet comments. Do some reading on the subject.

Nobody who is familiar with this genre would expect this sort of reaction.

That’s not how I interpreted the article, but again, maybe it’s just you.

Come on, “concentration camp” is WAY more loaded than “colony.”

Sure, not disputing that, but what else were they supposed to call it?

Probably.

No, but it’s one that can be expected to make someone bristle instinctively due to the connotations that surround it.

The game mechanics appear to be based around political philosophy. Beyond that, it’s a Fallout game.

Definitions don’t account for the entire meaning of a word, only the denotative meaning. Connotative meaning is just as important, and the word colony has taken on specific negative connotations based on its history.

* For you, it’s not about his (lack of?) talent or any controversies inside the octagon that irks you about Hardy.

Alex Smith had a leg injury. These guys are operating on his arm.

I mean, would it surprise you to find out they did?

He’s what’s known as a “loose step.”  The people who know avoid him, and tell others to avoid him, but no one ever fixes the step, and so some people keep stepping on it.

Not when you’re a powerful, wealthy white man they’re not.  99% of the people involved in this fucked up administration will never see any consequences for their actions.  Trump included.
