There are drivers out there right now that drive for free. You shouldn’t have to risk your life for free.

Unions are not only good (they certainly helped Jalopnik when this whole company unionized) but they’re better than your old school textbook made them out to be, as a great story in Bloomberg recently pointed out.

A lot of unions are still shit and cost organizations far too much.

The difference between motorsports and other athletics is that if you write a big enough check you can race in Formula One, IndyCar, or NASCAR. You’re not stroking a check to play quarterback in the NFL or start for an MLB team. I understand what Hinch is saying, but I’m not sure how a league minimum would work for

Yeah this comes across as trying to be reassuring in the face of a terrible accident. I think we all know people who, despite whatever horrific thing might have just happened, are going to try and be reassuring saying everything’s going to be ok (even if it clearly isn’t). That’s just human nature.

My wife and I watched the race and saw the accident. We were horrified and feared the worse, just learning that he was alive made us feel better. My take was that PT was trying to be upbeat and was behaving, not as a reporter, but as a fan and a driver who’s been there. I guess it’s easy to criticize PT now, and I

“its inaugural 2019 season will have humans behind the wheel”

Driverless racing is a dumb idea.

I image this will be like b-spec in GT5, the AI driver will pass as long as there is enough room to fit an aircraft carrier through. I’m sure it will be about as fun to watch too.

Ah, yes, the “he makes way more than us, and we work hard too” argument. My favorite.

Not sure that’s true about the Steelers (or Bell) “deserving” anything. Both parties are playing by the rules set down in the CBA. The Steelers exercise their leverage, Bell exercises his leverage.

Ballaban drove it like a video gamer, Lee drove it like she was actually racing in real life. I’d pay money for a series where you race on the video game, then strap into Spec Miatas or whatever and race the real track in real life where the fear of death / property damage is real.

I think the idea is cute, but try not to cheat next time, Ballaban. You know what you did.

Side note: love the concept here. But please for the love of God, lose the braking lines.

Can you give us your opinion as to how fun Laguna Seca actually is?  Like, I get there’s a lot of hype around the track, but for me, I put it near the bottom of tracks I’ve been to in terms of thrill.  So many tracks, even just in California, are more fun.

The same part that caused people to live in tenements and die of starvation before the Great Depression and the institution of a large number of such programs. It isn’t the free market that is causing this problem, but rather the false promises/advertisement of these types of companies coupled with the general

Blaming taxi driver suicides on Uber and Lyft (no matter how shitty they may be) is the shittiest of shitty journalism.

How is he a fucking idiot? Explain.

I have a lot of empathy for people who take their lives, but this bullshit is absurd. “But after reports of six drivers committing suicide in recent months, after struggling with mounting debt that only increased upon Uber and Lyft’s arrival in the city, officials were moved to take action.
