Man, do I miss Lotus Magellan. It was a great indexable file manager that showed files in their native formats textually (it was 1989 and MSDOS based after all) and indexed all the contents. Was truly ahead of its time.

In regards to the tech behind it, they don’t. It makes it easier for less knowledgeable users to set up a recording system and doesn’t require the extra expense of a DVR or recording Hub of some sort.
