On war games that don't have you killing people: the Metal Gear Solid series has this as a possibility which is encouraged, giving you better rankings if you managed to not engage enemies with lethal weapons. Some enemies do die despite you tranqing them, though...but the idea is out there.

A tachi hung from longer straps hung from a belt (thus several inches below the waist), which made it hang low enough to draw properly with the blade facing down (trying to draw it from waist height like that feels really unnatural, hanging it lower makes sense).
