It's like copy-and-paste, except the original doesn't remain.

Count me as another observer who finds an oversight like this, from a company known and lauded for its "attention to detail," to be truly bizarre.

I couldn't agree with you more about sci-fi fans being perplexingly conservative. As a young Star Trek fan who didn't watch DS9 until years after it aired, I was surprised to learn that the show was not highly-rated in its time. I was even more surprised to learn how many disappointed "fans" cited, as much as tonal

The announcement post mentioned that they're working on free versions for Android and iOS.

In his defense, he said that as a rhetorical statement, and immediately clarified: "That's a stupid thing to say."

Would any Mac users be willing to describe what they like about Fluid compared to Chrome's app shortcuts (or Prism for Firefox)?

I think it's partly a function of age. I'm usually more formal with my older relatives and work contacts than I am with my peers. But all convention is fundamentally subjective - it's just a way of showing respect. And I can say that as a recipient, I'm much more concerned with the content of an email than how it

You might want to reconsider pairing a message against hate with a litany of cheap shots against platforms you don't like. It doesn't really mitigate the sense of tribalism.

I agree with you completely. I don't mind Android's approach because they still give you the option to install unapproved software if you choose (and they don't make you jump through hoops to do it). I think curation is fine; exclusion is where I draw the line.

I'm not wild about the "app" craze started by the iPhone, especially for websites. It feels like a step backwards: we spent so long developing stable, powerful and flexible interface standards in the form of HTML and CSS, to the point where we can deliver the same content and functionality on a variety of devices,

Huh. So it means what I thought it did, then.

...someone tell me if I've understood this correctly: OS X didn't have an "undelete" option for files in the Trash before Snow Leopard was released in 2009?

Surprised not to see Childhood's End by Arthur C. Clarke. I've always thought that one was begging for a movie, and I think it'd be fun to see how they'd update some of Clarke's predictions for a modern audience.
