Calling something "merely art" is insulting and condescending. There's nothing saying this is an homage or is to honor his mother but to depict her through his eyes and (i speculate) through the eyes of a 70s camera.

Showing the mother through the eyes of a child using the child as the embodiment of the mother, especially when the son is gay, is fascinating to me. I'm sure his mom is used to more outrageous stuff than this (he is a senior in art school). The personalization and probable transphobia issues might set it off a little but she'll definitely come around.

And criticizing art for being "unflattering" is pretty off base on Jezebel when it's judging the son, his size, the mom's photos, and the mother allowing the photos to be seen by him.

He never specifies that this is supposed to "honor" her.

This issue of his mother possibly taking "personal offense" is way off-base. Why is the mother this shrinking violet and why are the depictions of her are insulting? Is it his size? What? Cause I don't see anything insulting in these photos.
