Calling something "merely art" is insulting and condescending. There's nothing saying this is an homage or is to honor his mother but to depict her through his eyes and (i speculate) through the eyes of a 70s camera.
But it's not so much the photographs as the subject and context. Showing the mother through the eyes of a child using the child as the embodiment of the mother, especially when the son is gay, is fascinating to me. Even more so considering some people's dramatic reaction to his recreation of the more provocative…
I'm sure his mom is used to more outrageous stuff than this (he is a senior in art school). The personalization and probable transphobia issues might set it off a little but she'll definitely come around.
So an Instagram filter and an avocado green kitchen in what distinguishes this from being worthy of conversation?
Ha ha! Guy looks funny in women clothing! Ha ha!
And criticizing art for being "unflattering" is pretty off base on Jezebel when it's judging the son, his size, the mom's photos, and the mother allowing the photos to be seen by him.
He never specifies that this is supposed to "honor" her.
We must be cosmically related because my mom looked like Shirley Jones circa Carousel (which she also starred in for a high school production)
Kelly, I love you. Good post with great timing.
I grew up thinking the only mentions were Leviticus and then Paul talking to the Romans.
ACOA! Woo!
For those not in the know, it's Adult Children of Alcoholics.
Divinely inspired but never underestimate the power of human beings to fuck shit up.
Broadway United Methodist Church in Chicago was established in 1891 and survived a fire and a denomination merger.
Wow. You've surpassed whatever I absorbed from my father with knowledge, facts and education. You are awesome.
Oh, and Dirt Bag is just what the feature is titled. Like a celebrity dirt bag. She's not (directly) calling her a dirt bag.
