Ok—what are you doing to help the people?

What are you going to grad school for? I have a BA and MA in English—neither one has been paying the bills. I’ve spent about 6 years on the adjunct track, and most of my income comes from an office job unrelated to my field.

As an adult with too much stuff, please don’t encourage people to go off list. If somebody doesn’t make a list or is super vague, follow your heart, but if they’ve put the time into making a gift list, believe that they know what they want.

I thought the issue with Moana costumes was the Maui costume with tattoo sleeves. From what I understand the objection was that the tattoos are earned by and unique to an individual, not something that should be reproduced for a costume.

Go to the dentist. I know it’s expensive, but my last “my teeth are fine” hiatus resulted in some bone loss and being told that I’m now too old to get away with avoiding the dentist for years anymore.

Am I the only one who still has a second-run theater in their area? I’ve been doing this for years—see the good movies in the regular theater, wait for the less good (but need to see on a big screen) to reach the second run theater.

I despise the “warrior” language. At my side gig I keep getting emails that reference honoring “survivors who never gave up” and it infuriates me. So, those who didn’t survive are just quitters? If you’re Stage 4, you just need a positive attitude?

Vulcans aren’t emotionless—they’re stoics. I’ll leave it to Spock and McCoy to argue about the merits of Vulcan philosophy, but Vulcans are constantly managing their emotions.

Most of Kirk’s decisions are based on listening to Spock’s logical argument and McCoy’s emotional argument and deciding between the two or finding a compromise (Spock and McCoy are usually both right to some extent and, as you point out, Spock isn’t cold or amoral).

When I was online dating I started avoiding other comic book fans because they’d monologue at me about how amazing Frank Miller is.

“Getting a thank you note is a treat, not a receipt.”

I’ve got an Asian character tattoo. I was 19, and it was the style at the time. I wouldn’t say I love it, but I don’t really regret it—a decade later it’s just something that’s there.

As an adjunct, let me just laugh in a way that slowly turns into crying.

My mother once completely lost her shit because I didn’t want to go to the pool with the family on Father’s Day. I can’t remember if it was the first year after my grandfather died or not, but she basically just screamed at me for being a preteen/young teen who didn’t feel like Family Fun day (this would also have

A family history of *any* cancer can disqualify you. I looked into it when I was young and poor, and family history knocked me out of the running (probably for the best since I’ve gone on to have some lady troubles. And would’ve just wasted the money if I’d gotten it at that age).

Those softcup things do not work as well as you want them to for period sex.

Where I live, a local theater group puts on radio plays. There are always more women at auditions than men, and at every audition I went to, the people doing the casting would apologize for the lack of women’s roles. And I started to think that maybe instead of apologizing, they could start casting women as

Some common mistakes I saw as a reading tutor:

Under Analysis, you can see when in your cycle you’ve tracked cramps (or any of Clue’s tags). Cycle Report will send more detailed info to your email, although I haven’t used it in awhile so I don’t know if that generates charts.
