I’m no right-winger, but I think this is a much more complex issue than has been perpetuated. Conservatives aren’t the only ones protesting this issue, though their (underlying, prejudicial) reasoning is certainly unique.

Don’t break your back reaching for those conclusions. “for pleasure” books aren’t something universities are going to assign for mandatory reading. These ‘common’ reading lists are supposed to challenge a young person’s ability to analyze, interpret and draw conclusions on a more complex level than they did in high

That is not at all what I said.

asdkfjdk my GOD woman, get your head out of your ass. Sarah, you write shitty teen romance YA, you’re not out here writing the next Booker Prize novel. Of course a college junior, who is presumably in her twenties and you know, at university to challenge herself academically, wants to read something with more

Except the entire argument that this could hurt the pocketbooks of any NBA player is based on the idea that there is a limited amount of money for the players, which is ONLY true because of arbitrary restrictions on compensation. I guarantee that if you took China’s money away from the NBA, the league would have zero

Yeah sorry but I don’t care about the livelihood of a hundred athletes who are going to be paid a little less or the fact that they were scared to be in China with only a fuckton of security when this went down. Like Chris said, that’s why they shouldn’t be there in the first place. Fuck this profits-over-all shit.

“Could have waited a week to send it” - Lebron James

“If you are using a smart phone to check your email or if you watched the Lebrun press conference on a tablet or smart tv you are just as guilty as they are of turning a blind eye for the sake of your own convenience and profit.”

This is such a tortuous pile of nonsense, false dichotomy BS.

“You, yes, YOU, are EXACTLY

I think this defense is broadly right—but it still amounts to LeBron saying that the sensitivities of one of the world’s most brutal and repressive regimes should set boundaries on what people in the NBA say in public. Which is fuckin’ gross!

A good time to remember that Colin Kaepernick gave up his job and all the considerable perks that come with it to stand up against injustice, while LeBron James, whose legacy and bank account are both more secure, is unwilling to risk even a small fraction of future earnings to speak on one of the few world issues

I understand the players are caught between a rock and a hard place. But this has to be one of the most craven capitulations to money I have ever seen by a major athlete. Should have kept quiet. His rationale is bullshit.

I definitely notice this, especially when I’m at the house of someone with a really good sound system. Any music, explosions, etc are WAY too loud and then the dialogue is way too quiet. It seems like it’s been becoming a worse problem over the last several years. People have explained why to me, but all I remember is

It’s shitty sound mixing that’s causing this problem and not just movies, on TV shows too that have action sequences like the CW DC shows.

This is not a new problem. I stopped going to theaters a while ago. Everything eventually filters down to where i can watch it at home with the remote at hand for the extra loud bits.

Even watching at home, the levels are bad - especially for action heavy films. My Roku remote has a “leveling” sound option that makes it possible to watch stuff without having to keep adjusting the volume.

He’s not wrong - I can sit in one theater, watching a movie, and hear the explosion of another movie playing next door. It’s a bit disconcerting.

Say what you want about Courtney Love - she’s a genuine fucking rock star, with songs that stand the test of time (did I listen to Doll Parts on repeat for 3 hours yesterday while crying at my desk because of period cramps? Perhaps)

marking her first public outing in the city after fleeing to Palm Beach earlier this summer.

She’s a one-woman Generation X and I freakin’ love everything about her for it.

How refreshing to see someone stand up for their morals in this day and age! Good on her! As someone who lost their partner to an opiod overdose, this made me smile. Fuck the Sacklers.
