I’ve long held a theory that spelling is a talent rather than a skill.

My handwriting is bad but it’s a problem of micro-tremors. I never had any issues with school other than penmanship and spelling. Oh, and I can’t catch a ball worth a damn. But I was really good at tennis, bowling and fencing, so I did fine with PE in college :)
Had to correct that title for you for accuracy’s sake. I can’t spell worth a damn (thank goodness for spell check) but my wife is a freaking spelling genius. It’s scary actually. Something to do with nuns and rulers.
I just love how the price of gas purchased months ago is somehow affected by an event that happened days ago.
So, probably more tense than forgetting where you’re parked in the mall lot? Probably.
I was in college when I discovered classical and opera. I never did get too much into opera, but I had pretty much the whole set of classical recordings released on LP by Columbia and listened to them a lot. After a couple of decades I wasn’t as interested, but I converted the LPs to MP3 and occasionally listen to…
I find this with people who just stop listening to new music. I seriously don’t know how people live listening to the same 100-ish songs from age 25 until they die.
Excellent article! This is the first time I can remember any mention in the media of having hearing protection to mitigate the noise of crying. A copy of this ought to be handed out to new parents leaving the hospital.
Josh, that’s a lot of good info you put together. The only things missing are suggestions for a good drinking game to accompany the debate.
As of 11:30pm Monday, the launch window opening has slipped to 2:30am early Tuesday, with the window closing at 3:30am. Too late for me to stay up, although the rumble and eight minutes later the double boom-boom might wake me up. Maybe ;)
I live about fifteen miles away, so it’s a matter of just being awake that late and go look out my back door. Our local Spectrum cable news channel always carries all the launches and between that and spacex.com I’ve got lots of coverage.
Correcting my own post, the calculator I got in 1972 was an HP-35.
I can’t use a pocket protector
I used a slide rule in high school and my first year of college, but then dropped $300 for the first Hewlett-Packard hand held calculator. The model name HP-65 springs to mind but I might be wrong. A few months later I couldn’t sell it for $20 :(
Pay based on positions, so people don’t get favoritism.
Actually I liked the first Watch_Dogs, but not as much as the second one. I really liked the hacking mechanics and the stealth of both. Frankly from watching the YouTube videos of this new game I think it should be titled “We’re Hoping You Get Confused and Buy This Game Instead of Cyberpunk 2077". As if...
My wife and I are both pretty good at Jeopardy since we have a wide variety of interests, but she has the better reflexes. If there was ever Couples Jeopardy we’d do really well. For instance, I can’t spell worth a damn but she has that superpower.
Thanks for the info on the caller ID box, I'll take a look at it.
On a somewhat related, but still off-topic comment, it’s weird for me to read about treating mosquito bites. I live in Brevard county in Florida, near the Kennedy Space Center, in a small community. When I moved here 52 years ago, mosquitoes were a constant presence. I remember being awakened on the very first morning…
Excellent point! Automatically putting callers on a list sounds like something that could be easily abused. Like the FCC deciding that the Democratic National Committee’s outside line constitutes an unwanted caller.
