You’re both right - he is both not as funny as he thinks he is and is eminently off-putting, and deploys that as a strategic weapon for comedy - esp in those two shows. In places where he doesn’t get to set expectations, he’s less funny, which has meant that as more people hear “he’s a funny person”, we naturally…

I feel like that would have to be the title of Kevin Clash’ next Netflix documentary, where he dishes the dirt to get back into our hearts.
