this is just a issue of when a “offroad/work” vehicle becomes a mom carrier that does no real work and needs efficiency on the normal roads.

You raise a great point– it makes sense for airplanes that expand and contract during each flight, but these are fresh trucks that are being manufactured with this defect and then welded up. (To be clear I am agreeing with you just adding my two cents because I feel obligated to)

On the one hand, stop-drilling a crack is perfectly acceptable - they even do it on airplanes. On the other hand, that’s usually only necessary after thousands of hours of wear. That’s definitely problematic on a newly manufactured piece of equipment.

If you assume a cop’s initial statement in the wake of an incident is a lie, you will be correct in your assumption 100% of the time.

i think you replied to the wrong comment.

Unfortunately this will probably end up like so many other stories where the police get away with it and the tax payers foot the bill while the owners have to deal with an uphill legal battle.

crazy!

The public is so used to cops lying to shape narratives and cover up their misconduct that no one even notices anymore. It’s just assumed the truth is something else, like you assume the sun will rise in the east every morning.

It’s not enough, but the prosecutor agreed to release Mr. Morris on his own recognizance this morning. The security cam footage posted on twitter shows they were likely driving too fast, came too close to a parked car and overcorrected. This story is such garbage and it’s high time SLMPD is held accountable for their

So that drunk teen who crashed her car into the police station gets a $40 bail, and this guy is held without bond? ACAB is right. And I know the cops don’t set bail, but they do routinely lie about the circumstances of the incident to increase the chance of that denial.

Interesting, raising your voice is causing a disturbance but crashing your 5,500 pound SUV police cruiser through the front wall is apparently not.

If they can’t tell me why the roof cracked in the first place, I don’t have much confidence in any kind of repair.  What’s to stop a new crack from appearing in a different location?

Ain’t that some shit! Once the crack is welded they get the green light to sell the truck.
miss me with that

The sample weld in the NHTSA doc looks so nasty, too. Shockingly bad

GM’s fix for the problem is to drill holes at each end of the crack to prevent it from spreading, then weld it up and send owners on their way. This feels like an unsettling repair for a brand-new truck.

When I worked at the dealership the only welder on site was one that one of the other techs brought from home.  I would assume most dealerships don’t just have a welder around.

Welding, at a dealer, seems like a pretty sketchy fix.

Years ago I went into the “nation’s #1 GMC dealer” to lease a truck for my business.”

They will still find a way to lie, cheat, and deceive, Years ago I went into the “nation’s #1 GMC dealer” to lease a truck for my business. I went in 3 times to get a deal done. First deceptive practice they did was leave inventory on the website that had been sold weeks or months ago. When you’d ask about a car, the

It’s amazing how NADA, dealer groups, (and probably some politicians) are upset because they really want to preserve theirright” to lie and cheat dollars out of the consumers’ pocket.
