I don't understand why any of these are "utterly disturbing" — this is where all the meat that you eat comes from, and has for over a century. And should our modern society one day collapse, on a smaller scale, if you want to eat meat, this is how it will be done.

I expected the pics to be a lot more disgusting, but they look pretty much like what you'd see today except that machines would be doing some of the jobs and they probably don't make whatever those guys were stirring up with the boat oars. What is that? Some kind of hog slurry?
