Ted Cruz went completely bananas about this at some sort of press conference or interview today. Which really, in my mind, can only be a good thing.

This sounded very much like the beginning of the third season/series of Luther...until According to police, Leyland's death is not being treated as suspicious.

I was going to post a bunch of sad gifs but it was making me sad looking for them so in your honor I'm posting hot dudes:

The things in quotation marks are present in the filing, but quoted text is not necessarily in the order or proximity they are made to appear, contextual information is also missing.

I read about this somewhere else - while she was still pregnant she called and asked them for more of sperm #380, so her partner could give birth to some siblings for Peyton. Sperm bank was like "380? Oops, see the person who jotted down 380 when they were on the phone w you, their handwriting wasn't so great so we

The actual filing is a lot less ridiculous than Jezebels interpretation of the Chicago Tribunes interpretation of the filing.

Er, nowhere did I say it wasn't an issue in her community. It clearly is, and I think that she should really be suing the sperm bank for funds to move.

Mixed race person here too, and I'm going to assume the baby came out "physically passing" as black, or else the mothers likely wouldn't have noticed the clinic screw-up. And yes, that will definitely be an issue in a racist community with parents who have no connection to black culture and are already dealing with

Heard, and agreed. But I would point out that unless she (or her partner) is a lawyer, she probably received consultation. A lawyer's job is to decide what kind of lawsuit is filed. It is said lawyer's job to give her/his client the best shot at compensation. If in their estimation this was the best way, then that's

I'd have to disagree - when you go to a sperm bank, you spend hours and hours looking through profiles of donors and agonizing over which to choose. You examine their intelligence, medical history, job, criminal record, etc... and you select the one that you find the most appealing, just as you would when looking for

You know, I allow for emotional distress here.

She's not asking for anyone to take the child back. She and her wife love Payton and have bonded with her. But there is nothing wrong with suing the company that can't even keep it's record-keeping in check to send the right sample and holding it accountable for it's major f***-up. And yeah, the law is an inelegant

I'd say her racism is hardly a proven fact here.

It's not gross - it's someone actually recognizing the cultural, political, and economic costs of having a child of mixed race, especially without the resources or frame of reference to raise that child within the culture under which she'll be judged her entire life. So yeah.

They wanted to buy more vials to put in storage for when they were ready to have another baby. She was pregnant when she called to purchase more vials.

I mostly agree, but I think it's fair enough if the emotional distress she's citing isn't "I have a black kid now," but rather "I have to deal with people's intolerance of my kid now when I wasn't prepared for that and am facing having to uproot my entire life to move somewhere more tolerant and make new friends."

This was my first reaction here too. Like, this is super egregious (and sheds light on the fact that they've likely made other mistakes or will in the future with a bad system) all on it's own. It really doesn't need all of this drama about race. She's not saying she hates her daughter or that she is black - in

It's blatant medical malpractice because the company switched up the sperm vials. Do you really not want the company held accountable because they fucked up at their job?

It could actually really help the kid. Give the parents money to move to a community that isn't overtly racist, for one.
